music and lyrics? Do they show the true colors of the pop culture?

31 03 2009

  Do lyrics of secular music really show the true color of the pop culture?  Do we really need to Idol these people like Pink, Katy perry, lily Allen, and rappers like snoop dog, eminem, and all those other artist?  If you listen to the lyrics of the songs they suggest that we rebel against authority.  Pink’s song “so what” suggest that since she are a rock star nobody has authority over her. which is biblically incorrect.  Hebrews 13:17 says “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who Will have to give an account.  Let them do this with joy and not groaning for that would be no advantage to you.”  This completely goes against the lyrics of Pink.  Now on to Katy Perry’s song “I kissed a Girl.”  The bible says marriage is suppose to be between man and woman.  this song suggest that it is alright to be lesbian.  It slowly numbs the mind to lesbian and homosexuality.  This is one of the many ways the devil can gain foothold in your life.  It just saddens me that lyrics in this world can be so corrupt.  Nobody has probably heard of Lily Allen.  She has a song called “The Fear.”  This song is the most selfish song.   One of the lines says “I want to be rich and I want lots of money I don’t care about funny I don’t care about clever.  I want loads of clothes I want loads of diamonds.  I hear people die while trying to find them.”  that is just the first ten seconds of the song.  It just goes on and on about what she wants and not to mention has language.  Are these the people we want to idolize and worship.  My theory is to not buy the stuff and not even listen too.  this is all I have to say.  It saddens me that people listen and buy this stuff.  Say what you want and please comment.  prayers and peace.

this blog is stupid and ignorant. Biblical verses were meant to make *slaves* submit to people with money. What does the Bible say then about democracy?

I’m glad not a lot of people in the world are ignorant and simple-minded like you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The nice thing about the bible is we have to look at it throught the eyes of whatever culture and age it was written for. I believe that the bible condones homosexuality as well as abortion which I’m assuming you support. I have many Gay and Lesbian friends and think some of them are the most awesome people in the world, there is nothing wrong with being gay and I think I’ll see many of them, just as we’ll see lots of non-Christians in heaven. (I don’t use the word unbeliever) Since the bible was written in a time when the known world was under an empire, and that was the only form of government known, what the bible says is for that time and we have to reinterprete it for our time. I think it’s highly unlikely that any bible writer would condemn democracy or promote slavery in our time.
Hi “Lesfriendly,”
I’m curious, why do you think that Biblical verses are meant to make “slaves” submit to people with money? I’m just wondering where you get that impression from. If you don’t think that the Bible is true, then what is your idea of truth?
I have friends that are totally into both Katy Perry and Lilly Allen, and from what I see about them, I think they’re really cool. I don’t think the homosexual lifestyle is necessarially condemned in the bible. We have to look at things how they should be interpreted in this pro-choice and inclusive culture.
Giovanni, homosexuality is a sin. Many Bible verses say that it is a sin both in the Old and New Testament.
As far as the world, Its mess up in alot of places that is why we need to be aware of that which is around us so that we don’t give in to sinful desires. Don’t get me wrong their is good in this world.
As I have said to others Pride always leads to disaster.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It all depends how you look at it, I don’t think that even half of the U.S. population believe that the bible condems you to hell just because you were born gay. Of course, there’s other that would disagree strongly with that statement. At least for me, I look forward to seeing many of my gay friends in heaven, and I don’t expect to be sharing that joy with homophobes like Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson.

Lesfriendly, I don’t understand what your saying as far as slaves. I am not a slave but free from being a slave from sin. Have you everthought about the word grace. It can be explained using a simple accronym. God’s riches at Christ exspense. We don’t deserve it but yet it is freely given to those who ask and believe in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit who are three in one or also know as the Trinity. Thats something hard to understand because are mind can not fully grasp it because God is so great. That which is not shown to use by God we don’t need to know but instead should have faith in God for that which we don’t know.

WOW! great topic! I must agree with you. Songs of today are horrid. The Bible does not condone Homosexuality. It is a sin. Go made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Do not get me wrong, I have a lot of gay/lezbo/bi friends. I love them to death. But I do not approve of what they do. I can’t change who they are though. I think that how we feel about people is not completely controllable, but I do think that if we have feelings for people of the same sex, then we could pray to God. Just because you have those feelings doesn’t mean you need to act on them. I think it becomes a sin when you act on the feelings. But back to the main topic, many people idolize these “celebrities” but you know what? I am not one of them. They may have a cool sound, but they become stumbling blocks for people. I admire Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin, and others like that. They sing about holiness and give the glory to God, which is what music should be used for.

To Whom it may concern.

Hey I notice you and me have a very different understanding of what a Christian is. It seems to me and correct me if I’m wrong but you think gay and lesbian people are going to Heaven and so are people who are not Christians. I believe God chose me and many others before the creation of the world. God knows all things ad so He knows who truly love Him and who don’t. God is all powerful. He is loving but also *Just. Not everyone is going to Heaven and what the Bible says is never to be changed to fit culuture or whatever you want to call it but instead it should change people to seek God and they should ask Christ to forgive them .The great thing is He says He will answer and make them His. God comes to us not us to God. If your beliefs are God loves everyone and anyone can go to Heaven then I ask you to really think bout what I just said. I want to write for a site that shares whats true not a site of people who share what they think is right.

If the people on this site chose right over truth then I will no longer write for this site.

Hey Daniel,

You know, the beauty of the world is that we can agree to disagree. This blog is for the promotion of Christian Values, and even though we are of different denominations we can agree on the broader issues. I probably take a different view of a number of theological nitties than you do, that’s to be expected.

On homosexuality, that is something that is being debated in the broader christian community. The Episcopal Church, as you doubtless know has GLBT priests. My Church, the Seventh-day Adventist Church also has a gay pastor in our Northern California Conference, something that many in our Church condemn and will be discussed in our 2010 General Conference Session in Atlanta. I think sometimes this becomes such a huge issue it takes us off our real purpose: reaching the world for Jesus. Our purpose is to spread Jesus’ love for every person through the world, not argue over petty theological differences.

Personally, I don’t think that the LGBT lifestyle is biblical in nature, I don’t think that you can follow Falwel and say that every gay person is going to hell from a biblical perspective believing in a loving God. God isn’t like that. I think the vast majority of Christians probably believe that you have to be Christian to go to heaven, but you also have Mormons and JWs that think you have to be one of them to go to heaven. Some people consider them Christian, I don’t.

Basically for me, being LGBT is not a good idea, it’s not something that I would do or promote. Personally, I don’t believe that it’s a biblical lifestyle, however, I also do not believe that it’s biblical to say every gay will go to hell. God judges people individually. There are many good christians on both sides of the issue and I believe that tolerance is the best solution to problems in the world.

Peace!

I think it be best to discuss this on google groups for now and then under statement of faith share what each of us believe and describe what being Christian is all about and how a Christian should live.

To Giovanni,

I think it be best for us to email each other on this discussion because it seems to be more of you and me having different views.

I do agree that it is best not to cause problems that are not needed and tolerance is a good idea but we should not ignore each other views otherwise thoughs who vist the site may get mix messages and so thats why I suggest that each and everyone of us should write what we believe being a Christian and what a Christian is. So if you don’t mind creating a discussion form on google groups about this topic I be glad to start writting my replys there.

I thought this was about music, not homosexuality?!?! Daniel, about what you said way up there about right and truth. I do agree with you on some levels, but the fact and the matter is that people have a different opinion on the truth and on what is right. We can only go by what the Bible says. Not all of the Old Testament still applies. After Jesus came it changed. The New Testament also says that homosexuality is a sin. It is in Romans. Anyway. Truth and Right could be debated. Because there are opinions on both. On th Passion of the Christ, Pilate asks Jesus what the truth is. But, you know what? The only truth I know is Jesus. He IS the truth. God knows who will trust Him, but He doesn’t make them. They all have a choice, He just knows what their choice will be.

Emily, I’m glad you see that truth comes down to Jesus being Truth. Are Christian values which this site is about should be that which is Christ like. My main discussion is about the Christian values of this site. It seems though that some choose that only some things apply to themsleves that Christ said instead of all.

My stand is Theocracy. Standing for truth and living under God not men nor women.

I simply want people to get straight answers instead of it being contradicted by another person/persons comments.

Hey Daniel.
I would like to ask that you not leave this blog. You are definitely needed here.
I do not agree with the homosexual lifestyle at all, but I really don’t want to get involved in this debate, so I just ask that you stay with the blog.
I would really appreciate it.
Thanks :)

qoute: I simply want people to get straight answers instead of it being contradicted by another person/persons comments. from Daniel.

Daniel, I do agree with you on this matter. But, look at it from others point of views. Some people won’t listen or change their mind no matter what! Remember you can’t force people to believe your way, you can only plant the seed. (and I am not saying that you were forcing your opinions on people. I agree with most of your opinions.) But when it all comes down to it, opinions don’t matter, the truth does. And like I said, Jesus is the truth. The Bible is the truth. If the Bible says it is wrong, then it is, no matter our opinion. If the Bible does condone it, then yippee! But, the fact and the matter is that the Bible DOES say that homosexuality is a sin. Not, unforgivable. There is only one unforgivable sin. And it is not homosexuality. NOTHING can seperate us from God. And please do not leave this blog!!! It is good to look at things from other people’s perspective. So PLEASE stay.

In Christ,
Emily.

Giovanni, when you said The nice thing about the bible is we have to look at it throught the eyes of whatever culture and age it was written for. Well, if you believe the Bible, as I assume you do, then you will know that 1. God is the word, and 2. God is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. and when you said “I’ll see many of them, just as we’ll see lots of non-Christians in heaven.” Well, the Bible also says that Christ is the only way to Heaven. And if you believe in Christ and that he is the only way to Heaven and you believe and trust in Him, then you are a Christian. Some Jews, Methodist, Baptist, and others ARE Christians. These aren’t just my opinions, they are the truth. Because the Bible is the truth and these are in the Bible. While I do respect you for standing firm on what you believe, I will remind you that it is good to look at things from other perspectives!!!

In Christ,
Emily.

My conclusion is this I am staying and I thank all of you for your concerns and comments.

I see were most of you are coming from and some stuff I do agree with but as always I will continue stand on what I know is truth.

I don’t mean to belittle anyone but I am 18 and I have been *Mennonite, *Baptis, and am currently Presbyterian so do have a good idea on perspectives of other people as far as beliefs.

I agree God is loving but that doesn’t mean everyone goes to Heaven. God is the Judge not I and so He chooses who goes to hell and who goes to Heaven.

I believe thoughs who don’t repent from their sin/sins will go to Hell I know according to the Bible that living a homosexual life is a sin.

If anyone can show me truth apart from my views which are based off the Bible then I ask that you do so privately by emailing me.
