Your Thoughts: Good Books

13 04 2009

What constitutes a good book? How do you know whether a book will influence you to make better decision? Catholics used to be able to rely on a “Index of Forbidden Books” but that has been abolished for quite a while. Share your thoughts and ideas on how you choose books to read, do the same principles apply to all articles you read? Do you have any specific books you want to share with the Teenz Unleashed Community?  Comment on this post, some of the comments will be posted here on the top as well as a list of recommended books. I think it all depends on what interests you. Do you like romance, action. fantasy? It all depends. I like romance and Fantasy with some action. This is why Twilight and Harry Potter are my favorite books. I don’t think it is sinful to read these books. The Bible says that witchcraft is a sin, not that reading a story about it is. It may be harmful to people who don’t understand, but for myself, I stand firm on God and reading a book about vampires of witches isn’t going to influence me. They also both have good morals. Harry Potter teaches that you should be careful who you trust. It also teaches you to keep your friends close. Twilight teaches sacrifice and love. In Twilight, which is my most favorite, if you have read the books, it talks about God. Edward doesn’t want to take away Bella’s virginity before they marry, because he doesn’t want to make her immoral. He doesn’t even want to make her a vampire because he doesn’t want to take away her soul and condemn her to hell. So it all depends on your understanding of books and what you prefer. People have different views on what makes a good book, but one person may like a book, while another doesn’t. It is all about opinion. It think that the storyline and the point makes a good book.

In Christ,
Emily.

Live Like a Jesus Freak by dc Talk.
Jesus Freaks by dc talk and The Voice of the Martyrs.
2 Die 4 by Ryan Dobson with Brian Smith.
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.
The Man Who Was Thursday, A NIGHTMARE by G.K. Chesterton.
CHISELED by Shaun Blakeney and Marcus Brotherton. (Which is more of a guy’s book.)
John Calvin by Dr. William Linder.

I chose these books because they all have one thing in common Christian values.

As Emily said it all depends on the person and what they are interested in.
